The restoration of the Miss America 75
The fingers of the Reflex Unit were kept off the contacts with help of a match and of course it was pretty hard to get an extra ball!
Everything still original with very low meters.
This bingo is as new again and has started a new life in Belgium
I decided to leave the outside as we found it (just sprayed the metal front), but it apeared that the Belgium operator (the coinswitch was a Belgian Franc) was a thrifty guy. A few examples what we found:
The step-up and step-down coil of the Reflex Unit was blocked with help of a few beermats. In this way the Refelx Unit was fixed and could not turn to liberal or conservative. As a matter of course that the fixed position was far from liberal!
The Spotting Unit was manipulated also. Normally we find cut wires, but this time the operator put some insulating tape on various contacts. Easy to do, but also pretty easy to remove!
But the inside was absolute fabulous. The pictures were taken before we cleaned the inside. The backdoor, Control Unit, the front and rearside of the Whiteboard looked new. The motors were running smoothly and without any noise and oh wonder, no trace on the playfield.
However as always all steppers and units were taken apart to give them a thorough cleaning.
Obviously the Belgian operator did shoot in his own leg. This immense popular Miss America (why did they coloured all the Begian cabinets in the stars and stripes, they all looked like a Miss America) has hardly been played.
That happens when you minimize the chances of winning. Bally did publish a brochure with the bingo's to the operators: "Too Tough is bad" it says. And it goes on: "If the average player cannot score enough replays to satisfy his ego, he gets discouraged- just as an average golfer may get discouraged on an unusually difficult course. So players get bored and players do not continue to play a game that bores them".
